    2025-2026 President’s Quilt

It's that time of year again. Time to show our appreciation for our generous, creative, book

loving president, Carolyn! In appreciation for this year of leadership and as is our tradition, we

would like to present her with a quilt at the February 2026 meeting.

Betsy and I have come up with a wonderful idea for our guild this year! We would like to make a bookshelf quilt for Carolyn; she loves reading books! You can make a block representing your favorite book. Or, create a book spine/cover for one she would like. Or, make both! She loves great literature, modern fiction, quilting books, and many other books. She has a special appreciation for banned books. I designed a few blocks as a starting point. I created them as paper pieced blocks. Or, feel free to design your own block (pieced, appliqué, etc)!

    Guidelines for Blocks:

    • Block should finish at 10” or 12” tall. This means that you will turn in a block that is either 10 ½” or 12 ½” tall (to allow for seam allowances). You can determine the width (up to 12” finished/ 12 ½” unfinished). You can even feel free to make a single book spine (just a rectangle! It should be less than the maximum size block height)!
    • You can make a cover for an actual book that you love or make up a title.
    • Use the background fabric I supply (so the back of our bookcase looks consistent!).
    • Make sure to sign your block on the book somewhere, not in the background fabric (so she knows who made it!).
    • If you want to add something extra on top of a stack of books or next to some vertical book spines or in front of the books, feel free to add something (examples could be a vase with flower(s), quilt block in a frame, a clock, some other knick knack or tchotchke).
    • Let your imagination run wild for book covers (if you choose to make a block with a book cover). You can design your own cover with the name of the book and maybe a picture or something. If you need ideas, you can search the internet.

    When are the blocks due?

No later than the November or December 2025 OCQG General Meeting (12/9/2025)

    Additional Information:

    • I understandthat paper piecing may be a challenge for some. If members are interested, I canoffer a (free) class on a weekend day in September or October or do a demo before our October or November meeting; please let me know if this interests you. In any case, I am available to answer any questions. Or, as stated above, design your own block(s)! The book spines are pretty easy to do without paperpiecing!
